Everything on the homepage is drawn in the browser — the corridor, the sky, the typography and the way the figure drifts are all solved per frame from the scroll position. Two things came from elsewhere: the figure, and the photographs the two worlds are wearing.
This work is based on “Animated Floating Astronaut in Space Suit Loop” by LasquetiSpice, licensed under CC BY 4.0.
Modified: converted to metallic-roughness, retextured for the web, and driven by a procedural free-fall solve rather than by its original animation.
Surface imagery from Blue Marble Next Generation by NASA Earth Observatory.
The surface, the weather and the city lights: three equirectangular maps, sampled per pixel by the sky shader and lit by the same model that lights the moon.
Surface imagery from CGI Moon Kit by NASA Scientific Visualization Studio.
A colour mosaic assembled from Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter data. Every mare and ray you can pick out is where it actually is.
NASA imagery is not subject to copyright and needs no permission. It is credited here because both surfaces are photographs of real places, and letting them pass as renderings would misdescribe where the picture came from.
